I will never forget the phone call I got from south carolina 5 years ago. My sister was leaving an assembly in Florince SC when her witness boyfriend shot her in the parking lot then killed himself. It has forever changed our familys life. My mom has not been back to the hall since and ayear after my elder father died just not wanting to go on.

return of the prodical son (daughter)
by thebeliever ini left the jw's when i was 19. it was not easy.
my father was an elder, i had an older brother who didn't seem that "spiritual" who was just very frightened by my father.
my father and i were especially close and no one expected me to leave.

Kobe charged ! so sad !, will JW's use him as an example for their young ?
by run dont walk inanytime something went wrong in the world with an individual, they would use them as example over and over and over again.. the most common one i heard was brother a got into big trouble with __________ (insert problem here, pick any one), see this is what happens when you leave the organization.. so how many jw's will be saying ............. "did you hear what happened to kobe, big successful athlete, see he didn't have god's organization and satan got him.".
i wonder how many jw parents especially in the la area will make their kids stop wearing number 8. he did and admit to committing adultrey.
sexual assault, i don't think so.

Convention Report
by Euphemism ini just got back from my convention yesterday evening.
i'll be trying to catch up on the posts as time allows, but there is a very large volume; so if i miss any personal replies, please forgive me.. this was my first convention since i became mentally free, and it was just painful to sit through.
i used to be one of those dubs who actually enjoyed conventions.

Well done. The convention began here in cleveland last week and I think my wife goes next week. I drove past last week and could only think how all looked alike. A bunch of robots getting briefed. An artical in the paper here said 35,000 expected here in the next 4 weeks. I guess after the mom in law thing I want get invited this year. OH well life is good :}

Let the shunning begin!
by Cicatrix inboy, this has just been my lucky week.
twice in one week i was the recipient of "active shunning" by former congregation members.. scene one-the local discount food place where all the blue collar folks (and a few smart upper crust ones) buy their food.
i'm busy grocery shopping and sister zealous comes marching down the other side of the aisle, dutifully studying the cans on said shelf.

You know I was dfed some twenty years ago and the elder who lives at the end of my street crosses the street to avoid me when I'm cutting the lawn. One day I was out in the yard and he and his wife were out for there afternoon walk and yelled "hello" to my then ten year old daughter (who goes to the hall with her mom ) .I stoped what I was doing ran across the street a yelled Don't you ever direspect me in front of my daughter by not speaking to me . A hello would have been fine. He looked like he was going to faint. Of couarse I heard it from my wife that night. My mom now 82 came home from the Hall 20 years ago and said they read my name off at the hall. I asked her so this means you will never talk to me huh. I will never forget what she said " No man EVER will stop me from talking to my children. She continues too today. After some forty years of going to the Hall my mom stop going some 5 years ago after my sister was killed by her jw boyfriend outside an assembly in SC My father never recovered and died the next year. My mom tells me every day she is so glad she never stop talking to me as her "ELDER" son my brother has no time for her . How sad
